I find that vintage shops have the best stock of high quality clothing for the fall and winter.
For the past three years vintage consignment shops have been my go to for almost all things winter outerwear, especially for bomber jackets.
Bomber’s got their popularity as fashion starting somewhere around the 1950s. It has seen many small changes since then and had undergone quiet a few changes before then. Check out this Brief History of The Flight Jacket.
I found this one online for $1085. WOW! Vintage WW2 A-2 Bomber Jackets.
This speaks to another reason why I prefer shopping vintage. Imagine getting a coat made in the same quality as a decades old flight jacket, like the one’s the military and air force used to wear? It would be super rare and you can find them at affordable prices. (Way less then $1K.)
This post features an 80’s constructed vintage bomber jacket. Not that the construction of bombers have changed much. But by 80’s constructed, I’m really speaking to the fit. While modern jackets are normally design to fit close to the body, this is very loose fitting. The sleeves stop about an inch longer than a modern jacket and the length stops about three inches below the waist.
Considering all of that, peep the print. It’s like a minimal Aztec print jacket. This sandy orange color is perfect for a giving that warm camel coat appeal but being a functional statement piece.
I’ve googled about for others like this vintage bomber jacket but it’s looking kind of ghostly. You can almost always trust sites like Etsy and Ebay to turn up some close finds so I’m providing those links below.
