TBT: INSPIRED BY MY FAVORITE VINTAGE TV SHOW

Its a very different world than the fashion world some of our parents come from. Today,we find designers are observing less rules and taking more risks, however, I find the innovations of the late 80’s and 90’s are worthy of being called classic designs. I’m not talking about classic suits, thats basic. I am referring to the mix of colors, prints, and rigid design structures with a twist of adventure that we see in the boxed tv shows.

Today’s look, The Vintage Purple Cat, was inspired very much by the classic TV show “It’s A Different World.” I love the wardrobe on that show.  You can say that the design motif of the 90s was part fit part oversized. You could easily find a broad shouldered jacket that had elastic bands around the waist and the cuff or a high waist pant with tapered or elastic around the ankles, be it a suit jacket, a windbreaker set, or a outfit for the disco. For Throwback Thursday, I thought I’d show off this ensemble of things I collected over the years, that when put together gives you total 90s vibes.

The dropped crotch wool pants I bought last year from Urban Outfitters, The leopard print sweater is from H&M two years ago, the purple cat cropped jacket I got recently from my favorite vintage shop, Father and Sons Raleigh, and the velvet wingtips I got from Rainbow about 4 years ago.
