The more versatile my wardrobe gets, there is one of many recurring truth. The biggest changes to a basic outfit can happen when I switch accessories.
While the dapper and classic man idea has been retaking its place in men’s fashion. One thing I don’t see is the attention to a wide collection of accessories or detail. Where are the haberdashers? While many men do not dress up accept out of necessity, it would seem that unless they are dressed they have little to no idea on how to spruce up a simple casual outfit or even a suit outside of the common lapel pin, tie or bow tie, or super expensive watch brand.
Those few things are great to know but what about your everyday jeans and t-shirt guy or the outfit thats dressy but is really casual in comparision.
The easiest way to give your wardrobe versatility is to grow and vary your collection of accessories.”
A simple t-shirt and jeans day can be made to look a little more intentional, stylish or sophisticated when you add a set of bracelets, a hat and a nice watch. Even a suit and tie outfit can look relaxed or casual if you choose fun, colorful accessories, loosen or get rid the tie and maybe add sneakers.
“The idea is to let the accessories give the details.”
The bigger idea is understanding that accessories complete the look, in every case. If it’s a tux it’s not official without a tie, the hobo or downtown or urban look isn’t complete without a hat or scarf, the dapper look isn’t complete with a pocket square or pocket watch, the street chic isn’t so without a pair of frames or a hat etc.
I recommend that every man get a set of bracelets and watches. It’s always the two things that make or break a look in terms of completeness. I’ve accompanied many male friends to the dressing room to try on something new and the look doesn’t have that wow or ahhh factor because they aren’t wearing a time piece or a bracelet. These are the two easy feels-like-home type items men can wear with almost everything in their wardrobe. A favorite watch and bracelet combo is essential to keeping-your-look-as-your-look even when you are trying something new on.
Search everywhere for watches and bracelets that you like, try some on, build a collection.
Here are a few looks that speak well to the idea that accessories complete the look.
