The Annual Coffee Break: Getting To Know Çoul

I know, I know, in a world where almost every fast food chain has a coffee brand in high competition with Starbucks, who does coffee annually? Me! Aaaand it’s that time of year for my annual coffee break.

Normally on Christmas is when I have my a large cup of French Vanilla Cappuccino. I missed it this year so I’m having it now before the year is up.

Having it annually began several years back when I participated in what is wildly known as the Daniel fast. The Daniel fast is simply an observance of a diet of just fruits and vegetables and water only. In conjunction with the diet breakdown, the goal is to focus more on meditation and execution of scripture and growth in ones relationship with God. While doing this one year I realized I had made food a pass time. When bored, I ate. Wake up, drank. Sit down, drank. Stand up, Snack. Lonely, cook. That kind of vibe. I found comfort in food. I developed a dependency to on food. I never want to be a dependent on anything outside of what my body and mind can do on its own. So for four years, I adopted a modified lacto-ovo diet. I allowed myself fish only.

I used to view coffee as a liquid cigarette after seeing and hearing how dependent people became on coffee. When I think of it, it kinda taste the way a cigarette smells. I had a pretty staunch view on coffee until I tried a French Vanilla Cappuccino. The smell drew me in. After a whole cup, I let up on my view of coffee. However, I knew shouldn’t over indulge. I hate repetition and enjoying coffee everyday would get old to me and I’d soon just let it go for years. I didn’t want that, so I made it super special. I allowed my self one day to have as much coffee that day that I wanted. Christmas has typically been that day.

Now I’m not that strict on my intake. There have been some years where I let my self have it a whole week. Some years, its two days only because the first cup i had didn’t taste like I wanted. This year is one of those years.

I found that the best French Vanilla Cappuccino comes from the gas station automated coffee machines. It’s never let me down. I like my coffee sweet and cheap I guess.

How about you? Do you have any annual confections?
