It’s finally gone mainstream. The tuxedo stripe has been a staple detail in the classic tuxedo since the early 1900s. The tuxedo has seen many phases going in and out of fashion. However, within the last decade we have not seen the tuxedo stripe make solo appearances.
Adidas is the most prominent brand offering the trending Adidas 3 stripe Superstar Cuffed Track pants ever since 1967. 1967, is the year they debuted their track suit.
The 90s were a really good time for track suits. Yet, there was noticeably no one else adding side stripes to mens’ bottoms other than on tuxedo pants. Fast forward to 2010, we see a revival of the modified adidas track pants made jogger style with the elastic cuffs.
As of Spring 2017, the tuxedo stripe b.k.a the side stripe finally became a mainstream thing. Several brands and influencers in women’s fashion from 2016 made the side strip thats was then only popular in athletic wear a things for everyday and everyone.
Only a year later it became a popular in men’s wear. And thats saying something because almost all new trends will find its way into men’s wear but it tends to take several years after its become popular and profitable in women’s fashion. The tuxedo stripe made it in one year. I’m sure that transition is thanks to all of the fast fashion brands and retailers we have today.
The pants featured in this post are from H&M. These side stripe trousers by now I’m sure are in most people closets ready to be paired with motorcycle jackets or worn as pseudo high waists with shirts tucked. How about going with something closer lounge wear or a relaxed fit.
I chose a cropped pullover and some metallic sandals just to give a mid-season comfort vibe to the semi formal look of the trousers. Accessories and statement pieces are my flare, as you know.
