3 Fall Wardrobe Habits That Makes Being Stylish & Warm Easy

I’m not always thinking about ties and a coat over a scarf and peacoats and funky socks and the amazing coordination of it all, although I love to layer. Most times I’m thinking of ways to be warm, fly and unrestricted. I have three Fall Wardrobe Habits that let me keep to those requirements.

Think Thick and Water Repelling.

It’s all about fabric choice. The tougher, warmer and more hydrophobic (water repelling) the material, the warmer you will be. If you wear a few warmer layers. You don’t have to worry about putting so many other pieces on that may restrict your movement. You could trade in that big coat for a premium pullover or sweater. Look for wool, cashmere, polyester, leather, nylon and most other synthetics (non porous fibers).

Being hydrophobic is so important. Think of it this way. Heat escapes your body from your head and feet via moisture. Cotton will become wet when you sweat at which point it loses it’s insulating efficiency. You need something that will not absorb your body moisture. That is why wool and cashmere are so popular in cold weather. It makes sense. Both these materials are water retardant so you will stay warmer as it will do a better job of trapping your body heat and resisting the moisture, keeping you warm.

Go With Flesh Tones Or Earth Tones complimented by the leaves.

We all know what flesh tones are. If you don’t know just look at your skin.  Name all of the colors you see on both sides of your hand. Then look at a few other nationalities and name all the colors in their hands or face. Those are the flesh tones. It’s different shades of browns, reds, yellows and greens.

You will always look nicely put together if you stick with colors that match your skin tones. Just remember to think the warmer versions of those colors if you are light or pale skinned.

Think Military Fit

This one is all about fit. As far as I know, all military attire carries the form follows function principle. Meaning if its meant to keep you warm then it should be close to your body. Go with fitted clothing. Fitted doesn’t mean restricted. Coats and suit jackets are normally more restrictive and decorative. A coat will definitely keep you warm to a point but your movement will be limited and it allows air to flow from large openings since its outerwear. As stated above choose something a layered look with cashmere sweater and scarf instead of a light layering and a big coat if you want be active but warm and comfortable.
